The Present-day Weddings:

 Proposals are sought through:

          - the Internet
          - the matchmaker/broker
          - matrimonial ads
          - falling in love/love at first sight.

The Engagement:

Most of the times the engagement takes place in the hall at bride's place. The exchange of the documents of the engagement and the rings, the presentation of gifts to the bride by the groom etc. are features of today and the absence of the parish priest is felt..

The Roce:

Usually roce takes place on the previous night. It is also not uncommon to have during the day and even 2-3 days before the wedding . One does not find the earnestness of the past in the roce functions of today; the food is served by the caterers., At some places 'roce' is also held in the morning of the wedding day itself.

The Nuptials:

Nuptials take place either in the morning or in the evening wherever and whenever the halls are available. The bride wears either the white saree or the gown (wedding gown).
The groom usually wears the suit.

The Function/Celebration in the Hall:

The M.C. takes the prominent place in lieu of gurkar. The couple enter the hall while the music/march beat is being played. Then the cake is cut, followed by raising of the toast by a reputed personality ora hired orator. The wedding march then follows. The bride is then dressed in Sado and the groom then ties the necklace (kariyamani) to the bride. The couple then offer the garlands to each other. The bride is formally offered to the groom's family(opsun dinvchem). The couple are presented gifts by the guests and the dinner follows immediately, ending with nonstop baila till the closing time of the halls. While portaponn is celebrated by some, others do not.

The Features of Present-day Weddings:

          - Neighbor's/villagers do not have to toil/work.
          - the gurkar is sidelined
          - There isn't the beauty of the country band.
          - There isn't a chance for the relatives and neighbor's to come together and have a sharing.
          - The music in the hall deafens everyone.
          - People too come very late for the function.
          - Home people too are guests in the hall
          - The M.C. Is the prominent man in the celebration
          - the parties are relieved of any worry as the whole responsibility is taken up by the professional service  providers.
